MLS (Multi Layer Steel)
The Cometic MLS gasket is comprised of three layers of
Stainless Steel. Cometic uses Stainless steel for increased
strength, itβs ability to rebound and corrosion resistance. The
outer layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on both
sides with a flouroelastomer rubber based material (Viton)
designed to meet the demands of a variety of harsh sealing
environments, load conditions and surface finishes. The Viton
coating is heat resistant to 2500C or 4820F.
The center or shim layer of the gasket is comprised of an
uncoated Stainless Steel layer, which can be varied to
accommodate multiple thickness requirements. The MLS
gasket is ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks and
aluminum heads to aluminum blocks.
Gasket Materials
The composition of MLS will also withstand the shearing forces created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks. No
re-torque is necessary. By design the MLS gasket promotes an even torque load across the sealing surface allowing for
measurable reduced bore distortion.

The gas filled o-ring portion of Phuzion is manufactured from high strength aerospace tubing capable of withstanding ultra high combustion temperatures and pressures. Additionally each ring is plated with silver to increase the sealing level and minimize brinelling. The silver also aids in withstanding head to block movements without burnishing the surfaces. The real innovation to the gas filled o-ring though, is the gas itself. During the manufacturing process the gas in the ring is sealed in at 500-600 psi at room temperature. As the engine is warmed up, the gas is heated increasing the pressure inside the ring causing it to expand. This allows the ring to seal the combustion even in the event of head liftoff.

The MLS gasket portion of Phuzion is
what gives you the ability to use the gas filled
o-rings without machining any grooves in
your block and/or head. MLS head gaskets
are comprised of three layers. Viton coated
embossed spring steel outer layers and a steel
inner layer, which provides support and
thickness to the gasket. Embossments on the
MLS gasket allow for proper seal around oil
and water passages.
Phuzion Requirements:
Head and Deck surfaces should be within
.002β of flatness and have a surface finish of
50RA or finer. The compressed operating
thickness of Phuzion is .051β.
AFM (Aluminum Foam Material)
Is the ideal gasket material for machined surfaces, especially when used between two
uneven stamped surfaces that have been plated. AFM is a chemically blown,
compounded nitrile synthetic rubber bonded to an aluminum core with temperature
resistance of over 2500F. AFM material has an 85% recovery while maintaining strong
torque retention. AFM does not require gasket sealers or silicone bead. Re-torque is
not required.
Available thickness: .018", .032", .045", .060"

CFM-20
A perforated steel core with an elastomer surface is ideal for head gaskets allowing heat to be drawn evenly across the gasket surface
while providing maximum sealing characteristics when exposed to
coolants and oils.
Available thickness: .043β, .059"

Aramid Fiber
Is a premium hi-temperature, hi-density creep resistant material that requires no retorquing
and is fuel resistant. All Cometic fiber materials are asbestos free and
require no additional sealants.
Available thickness: .012", .015", .020", .031", .039", .047", .060", .094", .125", .188"

Copper (Dead Soft)
Available thickness: .005", .010", .016", .020", .027", .032",
.043", .050", .063", .080", .094"

Armor Clad
Ideal for exhaust gasket applications. Can withstand temperatures up
to 20000F. Compressable to seal less than perfect sealing surfaces.
Retains torque.
Available thickness: .042", .064"
